Mar. 17, 2022 Trails/Grooming

We are into spring skiing mode now:  expect icy/hard/fast mornings, look for a possible sweet spot of the trails softening to ideal (for spring) as the temperatures bridge onto the plus side, then slushy/wet conditions once temperatures are above about 5C, especially in sun exposed areas. Expect ice forming in melted areas, particularly in the shade and when temperatures start to cool in the late afternoon and evening.  Overall, faster/harder trails with some ice and glazing.  Downhills and uphills icy.  Use caution.

Goldbar:  all trails groomed for skating and classic tracks holding.  Watch for ice from the melt-water especially near the roof of the picnic shelter on the Northshore loop.  Avoid the northmost trail on the northshore due to water and ice.  Expect fast glazed tracks throughout.

Capilano:  No grooming last night.  Expect fast glazed/hard tracks especially in the morning and evening.

Goldstick: No grooming last night. Hard/fast trails with glazing/icing. A combination of hard ice pack, slush, and icy slush with water leeching under the snow in areas. Overall not recommended.

Southloop:  icy areas with water leeching under the snow.  Not recommended.

Happy trails from your Edmonton Nordic Grooming Team
