Mar. 16, 2022 Trails/Grooming

The unexpected higher temperatures yesterday made for slushy afternoon of skiing here at the park.  We are into spring skiing mode now:  expect slushy/wet conditions once temperatures go above zero, especially in sun exposed areas, with ice forming in melted areas, particularly in the shade and when temperatures start to cool in the late afternoon.  Overall, faster/harder trails with some ice and glazing.  Some downhills and uphills icy.  Use caution.

Goldbar:  all trails groomed for skating and classic tracks holding.  Watch for ice from the melt-water from the roof of the picnic shelter on the Northshore loop, as well as near the monolith at the east end of the northshore and along the 2-way trail at the lake.  Expect fast glazed tracks especially in the morning and evening.

Capilano:  tracks and trails holding well.  Expect fast glazed tracks especially in the morning and evening.

Goldstick: Hard/fast trails with glazing. A combination of hard ice pack, slush, and icy slush with water leeching under the snow in areas. Overall not recommended.

Southloop:  icy areas with water leeching under the snow.  Not recommended.

Happy trails from your Edmonton Nordic Grooming Team
