I started coaching (assisting Jessie) Monday’s rifles with ENSC just this fall. Before, back in 1999-2000, I tried to coach/instruct adult/master racers – cross country – with HPSC (High Park Ski Club), Toronto. And before that… goes all the way back to 1977-80-th – University team and later the corporate team (here and there)…
Certification wise – just completed “Community Gold”. Back in Ontario, I had CANSI 2 and NCCP 1 but did not refresh/maintain when moved to Alberta.
Favourite place to ski would be Gatineau park (the home of Keskinada loppet) by Ottawa, locally – Hinton, and even closer – Tawatinaw…. However, I really respect our Gold Bar and Capilano area, too (!) – as we can have it pretty much every night, and that’s what matters! Far away places are nice but life happens every day where we live 🙂
I do not have idols in any area of my activity – sciences, exploration, skiing, whatever, but I respect the achievers. Bright names I am happy to be contemporary with would be Vyacheslav Vedenin, the best character of XC, a hero of Sapporo Olympics (1972) – gold 4th leg of the relay while exchanged more than a minute behind…, pioneer of the skate ski Gunde Swan (1980th), Italian skating talent De Zolt who took Gold from Wassberg in a 50km long duel, etc.
Nowadays, there are quite a few to cheer for and I do follow them (thanks to YouTube :-)) quite persistently….
