Dryland Training Summary
Edmonton Nordic Ski Club (ENSC) will be providing Summer Training Programs for those 13 yrs+, including Adults, starting May 1. Please note: You must be a member in good standing with ENSC or another Nordiq Canada affiliated club (for insurance purposes)
Summer training will be COVID “friendly”. Current restrictions allow for groups of 10 to train together. All current government recommendations at the time will be followed.
2021 Summer Training programs:
- General and SKI Specific Training Youth: Training is ski focused with emphasis on endurance, strength, technique, and is based on a Yearly Training Plan (YTP). Youth wanting formal training through the summer can participate.
- General and SKI Specific Training Adults: Training is ski focused with emphasis on endurance, strength, technique, and is based on a Yearly Training Plan (YTP). Adults wanting formal training through the summer can participate.
- Strength Training w/Strength Coach: Strength based training is key to developing “economy of movement” in cross country skiing, and as a means for injury prevention. Strength Training will have two options: Monday night Zoom and Thursday night outside.
- ADULT Roller Skiing: For adults who want to improve their technique through roller skiing. This program requires group meet-ups and as such Social Distancing measures will be in place.
Head Coach Ulf Kleppe will lead all programs.
Assistant coaches will be added if numbers warrant.
Cross Country Summer Training YOUTH
Who: This program is suited for those 13 and older in Youth Development (YD) (Learn to Train – U14 and Train to Train – U16) and Youth Racers (T2T and L2C – U18/U20).
What: Training is based on a Yearly Training Plan (YTP). The YTP will be generated and administered through Training Peaks (TP), a free online app that is linked to the Head Coach’s TP account. Planned training includes running, roller skiing, strength, and cycling. Regular time trials (TT’s) are scheduled as well as personal challenges. Other cross training activities may be included.

- Tuesdays 6:30pm-8pm and Saturdays 10am-12pm
- There will be a two-week break from July 25th-August 8th, 2021
*Programming/scheduling may change pending COVID-19 outcomes.
Where: Locations will vary; the default location will be Kinsmen
Minimum 8 participants needed.
Equipment: Participants will require both classic and skate roller skis, along with classic and skate length poles. Roller skis are available for rent from Edmonton Nordic at a cost of $50/pair for the summer (plus a $75 cleaning/maintenance deposit).

Cross Country Summer Training ADULTS – Masters World Cup ‘22 (Canmore)
Who: This program is suited for those wanting to continue their cross country ski training through the summer.
What: Training is based on a Yearly Training Plan (YTP) and is geared toward the Masters World Cup to be held in Canmore in March 2022. The YTP will be generated and administered through Training Peaks (TP), a free online app that is linked to the Head Coach’s TP account. Planned training includes running, roller skiing, strength, and cycling. Regular time trials (TT’s) are scheduled as well as personal challenges. Other cross training activities may be included.

Equipment: Participants can rent rollerskis form the Club. NOTE: New this year, ENSC will be renting out rollerskis for the Summer Session and separately for the Fall Session. If renting for both the Summer and Fall, there will be a discount. The new fee structure will look like this:

$100 for the new FF Classic skis for the summer. Should you wish to keep them for the fall it will be another $50.

Youth and Adults Strength Training
When: Thursday, May 6th to August 26th, 2021
- Thursday Group Strength w/Carl
- Time @ 7-8pm
- Strength Training is a group based program that combines maximum muscular strength training with muscular endurance as well as explosiveness and power, in the right combination, and at the right times of the year.
- The Strength Training Program is a collaboration between a strength training specialist, a physiotherapist, and a cross-country ski technique specialist. The program is designed to develop body awareness to strengthen key areas for improvement where most needed.
Strength Training Program Costs:
May-August $300
Minimum 10 participants needed.
NOTE: The Monday ZOOM Strength Meetings will still occur as a second strength session/week for those registered in the Summer Training Program.
ADULT Roller Skiing (Saturdays)
WHAT: This time is designed to help adult roller skiers train safely and with confidence while improving their technique.
Equipment: Participants can rent rollerskis form the Club. NOTE: New this year, ENSC will be renting out rollerskis for the Summer Session and separately for the Fall Session. If renting for both the Summer and Fall, there will be a discount. The new fee structure will look like this:
- $100 for the new FF Classic skis for the summer. Should you wish to keep them for the fall it will be another $50.
- ENSC will charge $100 for the Summer session
- ENSC will charge $100 for the Fall session
- If doing both, ENSC will charge $150 for the Summer/Fall for the FF Classics

Before being permitted to participate in this program, all rollerskiers must be members of the Edmonton Nordic Ski Club (ENSC) or another CCC/CCA affiliated club – this is for insurance purposes. All are required to wear an approved helmet and highly visible clothing at all times when roller skiing.
