2024 Alberta Cup 3 & 4

Alberta Cup 3 (Jan. 20) and 4 (Jan. 21)
As a result of postponing the 2024 Westerns Championship Canada Cup due to forecasted cold temperatures, the Organization Committee (OC) has now committed to hosting Alberta Cups (AB) 3 & 4, the following weekend on Jan. 21 and 22.
It’s a new event, which will not include the Westerns competition. The decision to exclude Westerns was based on the new weekend not aligning with the Western Provinces’ and Territories’ race calendars. It would mean athletes having to choose between two events last minute. We’re optimistic a new date will be confirmed from Nordiq Canada to host the 2024 Westerns Championship Canada Cup later this season.
What’s next?
The OC is currently scoping the AB Cup weekend race events and schedule. We’re working on a schedule that may include relays, king’s court, sprints or distance. We’ll confirm the race schedule as soon as possible, which may also include some race options under the lights Friday evening (Jan. 20).
Regardless, it’s still going to be an epic weekend of racing and fun, so we encourage everyone from everywhere to join in!
Once the race options are confirmed, the OC will update this web page and Zone 4, so everyone can confirm their registration appropriately, given the new schedule and scope of the event.
Refunds will be honoured
While typically refunds are not granted due to weather conditions, we are refunding (minus administration fees) registrations for athletes who are unable to attend the races due to the new dates. All refunds (minus administration fees) will be processed, after the new race weekend has been confirmed and completed. Details on the refund process will be shared as soon as possible.
Refund Policy: Refunds may be offered if the event or a race day is cancelled for reasons other than cold or adverse weather conditions. No other refunds will be offered.

Weather & Cold weather policy
The Weather forecast for the Canmore Nordic Centre is on the Weather Network. Current weather conditions at the Canmore Nordic Centre are available on their Weather Information Network.
The cold weather policy for the event will follow the ICR-CCR (Canadian Competition Rules) Precisions 2024 (see page 82), where by if the temperature is below -20° C, measured at the coldest point of the course, a competition will be postponed or cancelled by the Jury. With difficult weather conditions (e.g., strong wind, high air humidity, heavy snowfall, or high temperature) the Jury may, in consultation with the Team Captains of the participating teams and the Chief of Medical and Rescue Services responsible for the competition, postpone or cancel the competition.
For U14 age groups and younger, with air temperatures below -15C (temperature measured at the coldest part of the course and without a wind factor), the Jury must postpone or cancel the competition. In that situation, U14 skiers will not be authorized to race up in the U16 categories.

Trail Report
All ski trails are open to the public while the race is in progress. Be cautious and courteous! Dogs are not allowed on the ski trails.
