We are heading into a bit of a “deep freeze” later this week…and some snow earlier in the week – if we can trust the forecast. Tuesday looks to be a good skate day but later in the week the days are ideally “classic” days since it will be cold. Saturday’s high is forecasted to be -24C and some wind! Keep in mind we have aCold Weather Police which reads: Formal training will be cancelled if -20C or colder without windchill. However, we can still ski and be outside if -20C or colder; we just have to dress accordingly and not go too hard. But know that official outside training will not go if this cold.

- Strength as Usual
Tuesday January 7:
- Who: All XC Programs
- Where: Goldbar Park
- When: 6:30 – 8:00 pm
- What: Skate Skiing
- Coach Directed Training (Usually Intensity)
- Technique: Skate skiing
- Bring: Appropriate training equipment and a change of warm clothes
Wednesday January 8:
- Distance/Recovery Ski Day
- Ski 1.5 to 2 hrs at Z1
Thursday January 9: NO Training for those going to AB Cup 4/5
- Who: 3-Day/week Program
- Where: Goldbar Park
- When: 6:30 to 8:00
- What: Classic Skiing (Stay tuned…it may be too cold!!)
- Coach Directed Training (Drills and Technique)
- Technique: Classic ski
- Bring: Appropriate training equipment and WARM change of clothes for after
Friday January 10:
- Active Rest Day
- 30-60 min of “movement” – run, jog, walk, ski – followed by a 15-20min core routine.
- Travel to Canmore for AB Cup 4/5
Saturday January 11:
- Who: All XC Programs
- Where: Goldbar Park
- When: 10:00 am to 12 noon
- What:
- Classic Skiing (Stay tuned!! COLD??)
- Coach Directed Training (Usually Intensity)
- Technique: Classic ski
- Bring: Appropriate training equipment
- Or…
- AB Cup 3 – Skate Interval Start
- Or…
- Drayton Valley – Pembina Loppet (Free Technique)
Sunday January 12:
- Distance Day
- 1.5 to 2.5 hrs LSD
- Add 4-6 sprints of 10-15 seconds after 30-40min. Ensure you have 2-3 min active, slow skiing between efforts.

- AB Cup 5 – Classic Mass Start
