Team SISU

SISU

SISU is a Finnish concept described as stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness and is held by Finns themselves to express their national character.

SISU is described as a psychological key competence, which enables extraordinary action to overcome a mentally or physically challenging situation.

SISU also contributes to what has been named the action mindset; a consistent, courageous approach toward challenges which at first seem to exceed our capacities.

Team SISU

Team SISU is aimed at nordic sports athletes (cross country skiers and biathletes) who have recently completed high school, who want to continue to be active in their sport and who live in the Edmonton Region. For those student athletes who are entering post-secondary education, managing costs, juggling course loads and participating in sport can be difficult. Team SISU is a low entry cost option, that is flexible and designed around students timetables, and work schedules, and offers a peer-group social network to support those who wish to continue to train and ski during the Fall and Winter semesters.

The intent is to provide an enabling venue to manage the mental and physical challenges of post secondary education, work and nordic skiing…to build SISU

  • For cross country skiers and/or biathletes, who wish to train and attend a University or post-secondary institution in the Edmonton region, and be a part of the ENSC family.
  • For athletes (17 – 25) who recently graduated from high school and wish to live, work and train in the Edmonton region, and be part of the ENSC family.
  • Be open to all athletes who have a desire to push their individual physical limits, while integrating this into their educational endeavors.
  • Take advantage of the many benefits of intense exercise on aiding the learning process during the year.
  • Provide its members a health focused peer group through the Nordic sports of cross country skiing and biathlon, whose members coordinate group-training sessions.
  • Provide its members with a social network for support in their education and sport, through ski training and other activities and events such as hiking, canoeing, etc.
  • Be role models for ENSC’s youth athletes who wish to achieve their personal goals in Nordic sports, while looking ahead to what they wish to do after graduating from high school.
